Hi, I'm Rebecca Hopkins! I'm a 23-year old Finnish-Canadian writer, photographer and all-round creative. I don't consider myself massively good at any one thing, and prefer dipping my toes into all types of areas such as photography, writing (both blogs and poetry) and video content. These facets of my creativity are all available through various links on this website! Don't hesitate to message me if you have any questions, or are looking for anything specific.
My personal blog
I started writing a blog back in 2011, and have been updating it erratically ever since! I share stories from my life and feelings I'm dealing with, as well as document trips. It's a good way to get a picture of what I have been like at any given time in my life, but the posts tend to be understandable without any specific context. I touch upon subjects such as mental health, influential films, feminism and self-help.
Photographing myself and others
I really do not consider myself a photographer, but I greatly enjoy taking portraits of people, be it of my family, my friends or, for want of a better model, myself. I love creating a feeling or mood and portraying it through my photography. I am still learning more and more about the art of photography, and hope to photograph many more people in the near future. I've been taking self-portraits for a few years now, and its an ongoing project I'm excited about. I take my photos with a DSLR, but I love using Polaroid as well for quick snaps.
From vlogs to advertising
I started making videos on YouTube in 2013, making comedic 'relatable' content such as vlogs and parodies. My channel has changed a lot since then, and I've tried everything from song covers to videos talking about my favourite films or books. Through the years I've struggled a lot to find my Youtube-identity, but I have come to the conclusion I work better behind the camera. I love filming and directing video content, and have been doing so during my time at university. In addition to the short films we have produced I have also been involved in making advertising and promotional content for a brand. I'm still working on finding my voice in video. Below is the link to my 'new' channel where I'm trying to make content just for my own joy to see where it will go.
The growth of my poetry
I have been writing my own poetry for a few years now, and have published it both online as well as in book form. I am still very much learning how to express myself, and I write almost daily.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, as Alexander Hamilton
"I'm past patiently waitin'. I'm passionately smashin' every expectation, every action's an act of creation!"
